Last night, Ariana Grande hosted a particularly special episode of Saturday Night Live. Her third time on the sketch comedy series in just two years, the Grammy-winning artist closed out the year alongside Cher, who returned to the stage as the musical guest for the first time since 1992. The evening also marked Bowen Yang’s final show, where he said goodbye to SNL partway through his 8th season.
And for such a memorable night, Grande’s looks were just as unforgettable.
Kicking things off with a parody rendition of “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” in which the star wondered aloud what to buy her cousin’s boyfriend for the holidays, she performed her monologue in a baby-blue gown from 20 years ago.
Pulled from the Vivienne Westwood archives, the voluminous piece was constructed from layers of silk taffeta and tulle for the label’s Autumn/Winter 2005 collection. Featuring a strapless neckline with sculptural folds and asymmetrical draping, it balanced softness with structure, creating a dramatic silhouette perfect for Grande. Stylist Law Roach paired the dress with Swarovski jewelry for extra shine.
Later, to introduce Cher, Grande sparkled in a black feathery Bob Mackie gown, designed with a V neckline, sequined bodice, and long glamorous skirt. Paired with a matching boa, it served as the artist’s second look from the designer for the SNL episode—following the 1973 orange-and-brown chevron dress she wore in promotional content. Previously worn by Carol Burnett, the dress paid homage to the history of comedy, as well as to the show’s ’70s roots.
