Brandon Jones has lost ground in the NASCAR O'Reilly Series point standings after the race at Sonoma Raceway. Jones faced unfortunate luck after his No. 20 car shut off with a mechanical issue in Stage 1. The driver of the No. 20 car wasn't able to recover, losing a spot in the standings to Sammy Smith.
Luckily for Jones, he has a firm grasp on eighth place over Parker Retzlaff, who is 40 points behind with five races left in the 2026 O'Reilly Series regular season. If not for a mechanical issue, there is a possibility that Jones could sit sixth in the standings above Smith and Carson Kvapil.

Instead, Jones must focus forward and hope he can gain more points over the coming weeks. There will be plenty of disappointment in the No. 20 camp for Joe Gibbs Racing, but there is reason for optimism. Jones is a championship-level driver, and he should have some good races coming up.
