Busy Philipps tells PEOPLE her oncologist confirmed her latest scan was clear after she was diagnosed with a brain tumor

Doctors discovered the rare tumor during a full-body MRI in February

Philipps underwent two surgeries and did not need chemotherapy or radiation

Busy Philipps shared a positive update amid her ongoing health journey after she was diagnosed with a brain tumor earlier this year.

“I chatted with my oncologist today,” the Cupertino star, 47, tells PEOPLE exclusively at the Wednesday, Sept. 30, premiere of the CBS show in New York City. The Silicon Valley-set legal drama was her doctor’s preferred topic of conversation, Philipps shars.

“She was like, ‘Really just wanted to talk about Cupertino.’ I’m not even kidding you,’ “ the Mean Girls actress says. “She’s like, ‘Your scan was clean. So when’s the show come out? Is it this week or next week?’ ”

“I was like, ‘The premiere is tonight.’ She’s like, ‘Amazing,’ “ Philipps adds. “Anyway, so yeah, she’s been on the whole journey with me.”

In August, Philipps exclusively shared with PEOPLE that she’d had two surgeries after doctors discovered a rare brain tumor in February following a full-body MRI scan. She underwent the first surgery in early March, just weeks before filming began on Cupertino. Because a scan caught the tumor early, her surgeon was able to fully remove it, and Philipps did not require chemotherapy or radiation.

“I found out I got the show on the same day as the brain tumor,” she told PEOPLE. “I said to my doctors, ‘I just was cast in this television show. How can I do this?’ ... My doctor was just very confident and said, ‘You’ll have the surgery in a week from today and then you’ll be able to be on set in four weeks.’ And I was.”

Her transparency with her health has resonated with people, Philipps tells PEOPLE at the premiere. “So many people have come up to me in public and just expressed that they’re grateful for me sharing what I’ve gone through and also just the message of like, listen to your body, women,” she says. “If you get a no from a doctor, continue to seek care for yourself if you just feel something’s off.”

“I’m grateful for that. I’ve been overwhelmed with love and support and it’s been very nice,” she says, before quipping, “I mean, what? Are people gonna be mean?”
