Catherine Zeta-Jones Describes Her Perfect Day with Husband Michael Douglas, Including ‘a 40-Minute Power Nap’

Zeta-Jones will next appear on the big screen in December’s The Gallerist, on top of her new AMC+ series Kill Jackie

Catherine Zeta-Jones is sharing what her ideal day with her husband of nearly 26 years, Michael Douglas, looks like.

“Well, we always say we should get out more. We’ve been historic homebodies,” Zeta-Jones, 57, told AARP Movies for Grownups in a new interview published Wednesday, Sept. 30, when asked what an ideal date night for her and Douglas, 82, looks like. “We’re big sports fans. So if there’s a game on, we’re watching it. I mean, every sport. I only follow baseball when the World Series starts to get going. I get really into it.”

Zeta-Jones has been busy of late. Her new AMC+ series Kill Jackie debuts on the streaming platform Friday, Oct. 2, and she also has a new movie, The Gallerist, arriving in theaters this winter.

“Our favorite day would be getting up, doing Wordle — me getting it first, him asking me for help. Then we have breakfast. We go to the gym,” she told the outlet. “Then we love to have a nice light lunch. Then we love to have a 40-minute power nap. And we go and play golf in the afternoon. Then we come back and have a lovely dinner prepared at home. That is like the perfect day. Maybe watch a movie, although we watch more sports than we watch movies.”

Zeta-Jones and Douglas first met in 1998 at France’s Deauville Film Festival. The two-time Oscar winner had seen Zeta-Jones in The Mask of Zorro and asked his publicist to arrange for them to meet, as he revealed during a 2016 appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show.

The pair were engaged by the end of 1999 and married in 2000. They share son Dylan, 26, and daughter Carys, 23, who have both begun following their parents into the entertainment industry in recent years.

Zeta-Jones and Douglas conveniently share the same birthday. Douglas turned 82 on Sept. 25, while Zeta-Jones turned 57, and both actors shared romantic tributes to their marriage on social media to celebrate their uniquely special day.

“I had never fallen in love on a movie screen before. Until I saw Catherine. She was magic, in a way that went beyond beauty. And I was certain, as much as I had ever been about anything, that she was the one,” Douglas wrote on Instagram — using an excerpt from his upcoming memoir One Helluva Ride — to celebrate the day.

“It’s the kind of moment that only comes around once in your life, if you’re lucky,” he added. “The one time that you know, without any doubt in your mind, that you’re meant to be with someone. Happy Birthday Catherine! I love you always and forever! ♥️”

Zeta-Jones herself shared an undated photo of her and Douglas kissing while swimming in a pool together to celebrate their joint birthday.

“Happy Birthday darling! A birthday kiss to my husband Michael, sharing this special day with you, is as special as the day itself,” she wrote. “Love you😘😘”

Zeta-Jones’s new movie The Gallerist premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January and will hit theaters Dec. 4. Douglas most recently appeared on the big screen in 2025’s Looking Through Water.

During a July 2025 press conference at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic, he indicated that he was nearing retirement from acting, as Variety reported.
