The lives these icons have led!

Actors like Julie Andrews, Carol Burnett, Willie Nelson, Dick Van Dyke and Rita Moreno are among the nonagenarian Hollywood legends who've achieved incredible career achievements and humanitarian goals. Many even continued to perform well into their 90s.

Ahead of turning 90 in April 2023, Burnett told PEOPLE she couldn't "wrap my head around" the milestone.

"But I'm glad because I've got all my parts — got my hips, I got my knees, and I've got my brain, so I'm happy about that," she said.

Van Dyke shared a similar sentiment with PEOPLE in November 2025 ahead of his 100th birthday on Dec. 13, joking that he felt "like I'm about 13."

Learn more about the incredible stars, musicians and even astronauts who have celebrated nine decades with these side-by-side photos from the start of their careers to what they're up to now.

The Oscar-winning British actor celebrated her 90th birthday on Oct. 1, 2025 — and what a "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" life she's led!

In 1956, Andrews became the first actress to portray Eliza Doolittle in a Tony-winning turn in My Fair Lady. She rose to international fame as Mary Poppins in the beloved 1964 Walt Disney musical of the same name and in 1965's The Sound of Music.

Andrews continued to star in hit films like 1967's Thoroughly Modern Millie and 1982's Victor/Victoria, as well as on several TV shows in the 1970s, including her variety show The Julie Andrews Hour. A 1997 throat surgery left her unable to continue singing professionally, but she voiced Lady Whistledown on Bridgerton, winning an Emmy for the role in 2025, and Queen Charlotte.

These days, Andrews, who was granted the title of dame in 2000, is well known by a younger generation for her iconic roles as the queen in both The Princess Diaries and Shrek franchises. The actress also embraced writing as a creative outlet, penning several children's books with her daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton.

Though she didn't post about turning 90 on social media, Andrews' Instagram did celebrate the "book birthday" of their "middle grade valentine to Broadway," The Great American Mousical, on Oct. 21, 2025.

Oscar winner Shirley Jones — beloved for her roles in Oklahoma! (1955), Elmer Gantry (1960), The Music Man (1962) and on The Partridge Family — turned 90 on March 31, 2024, and celebrated with a party surrounded by her family.

Son Shaun Cassidy shared a photo of Jones on Instagram the day before her birthday, standing next to Shaun and his brothers, Patrick and Ryan Cassidy, while wearing a "90 and Fabulous" sash and "90" tiara.

"Happy birthday to Miss Pittsburgh!" he captioned the image, a nod to her early pageant days.

In a note on his official website, Cassidy elaborated further about what makes his mom so special.

"In one week, on Easter Sunday, this small-town girl from Western Pennsylvania, who grew up to become a movie star but who never acted like one, will celebrate her 90th birthday," he wrote. "In a journey full of dramatic highs and lows, Mom has always been an optimist and a lover of life. Simple things mean the most to her: family, friends, nature, animals, laughter, sing-a-longs at the piano, a dry martini. Not necessarily in that order."

The following year, Shaun shared some more love for his mom on social media, writing that he'd taken her out for lunch to celebrate "her 91st trip around the sun," sweetly sharing, "though I've often felt like the sun spins around her."

"It may not be exciting to the rest of the world, but as a mother and grandmother, it's the perfect way to celebrate," Hedren told PEOPLE.

The following year, she made a rare appearance on social media when Griffith shared a glimpse into their celebrations for Hedren's 95th birthday, writing on Instagram, "My beautiful Mama turned 95 yesterday! 🥰♥️🥰♥️🥰 She's happy, healthy and feisty!!"

For her 96th birthday in 2026, Hedren was spotted celebrating with family at Griffith's L.A. home, Page Six reported.

Daniels has shared photos from reunions with his "favorite students" over the years and joined Dancing with the Stars for an emotional tribute by former costar Danielle Fishel, who competed on season 34 in 2025.

In 2024, Daniels shared his appreciation for his career and loved ones as he turned another year older, telling PEOPLE, "I am so lucky to have had such wonderful material to work with over the years, which has created my career. I am also grateful for having such a special, wonderful family."

The actor noted he and his wife, actress Bonnie Bartlett Daniels, still enjoy being able to work. The pair celebrated their 74th anniversary on June 30, 2025.

When the comedy icon turned 90 on April 26, 2023, she told PEOPLE, "I still feel like I'm about 11, but I'm amazed. It sure went fast."

Best known for the Emmy-winning variety program The Carol Burnett Show and her role as Miss Hannigan in the 1982 musical film Annie, the actress said she hopes to leave a legacy of laughter.

"I made people laugh, made them feel good when they might have been down," she said. "In my fan mail, many say it was the only time the family would get together to watch and laugh. And that sometimes they were lonesome and were cheered up by our show. That's a good feeling."

Burnett celebrated that year with NBC's pre-taped Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love event.

Ahead of the show, Andrews, the comedian's friend of six decades, told PEOPLE of Burnett: "After 90 years, she has given us so much, and she is a survivor. She has an understanding of humanity, and the laughter she engenders in us is based on a recognition of some truth. From life. From the quirkiness of everyone. ... The humor is what is so brave, I think. Hugely brave."

At the 2024 Oscars, Sean Lennon, the only child of Ono and late Beatles member John Lennon, took a moment during his acceptance speech for Best Animated Short Film to acknowledge Ono, who had recently turned 91. As the awards show fell on Mother's Day in the U.K., he asked the audience to "please say, 'Happy Mother's Day, Yoko.' "

As of 2023, Ono was living on the upstate New York farm she and John had purchased together, which followed over four decades of living in the Dakota building in N.Y.C., where the Beatle was shot and killed in December 1980.

The British actress, who was named a dame in 2015, turned 92 on May 23, 2025.

Collins once shared that her youthful outlook was essential to her well-being.

"First of all, I don't even feel my age. I don't even talk about it. I don't think about it," the star told Louis Theroux for The Standard in November 2023. "I have some friends around my age, and, um, I don't find them interesting. Everybody's gotten older except me."

The mom of three has also been married to her 32-year-younger husband, Percy Gibson, since 2002, which can't hurt.

"All through the years, I've noticed that many people don't realize what a joy it is and what a gift it is to be able to work in an arena that you really love," she told PEOPLE when she turned 92 on Aug. 23, 2023. "So many people have to work in jobs they hate, and they have to do it just for sustenance, but aren't we lucky when we can study for something, enjoy it, and know that other people enjoy it? I think that's a gift that life gives us, if we are willing to work for it."

In addition to maintaining an active social life, Eden has credited regular workouts for her longevity, and she was seen out and about in L.A. on her 94th birthday in 2025.

Though Eden slowed down and lives a low-key life in Beverly Hills with her husband of more than 30 years, real estate developer Jon Eicholtz, as of 2021, she hadn't retired, telling PEOPLE: "Sometimes one is forced to slow down, but I'll do what I do until I can't."

Following The Great Escaper film premiere that October, Caine announced his retirement, saying he'd gotten to do everything he wanted to: "I might as well leave with all this — what have I got to do to beat this?" With two Oscars, a happy family life with wife Shakira Caine and many enduring roles to his name, it's hard to argue with that assessment!

The Dark Knight star has, however, continued his writing career, which began in the 1980s. His most recent book was the 2025 nonfiction work Don't Look Back, You'll Trip Over: My Guide to Life. It featured stories about the lessons he's learned throughout his life and career, and he hoped, he told PEOPLE in a statement, that it would help fans "be optimistic" because "anyone can blow the bloody doors off."

The country music icon celebrates his birthday on both April 29 and 30 each year.

"I was born before midnight on the 29th, but it didn't get registered in the county courthouse until the next day, the 30th," Nelson explained on his SiriusXM radio show in April 2018. "So it went out officially as the 30th. I just do both days."

For his 90th birthday in 2023, he threw an epic, two-day concert with nearly 36,000 fans that included musical tributes from friends ranging from Snoop Dogg to Miranda Lambert.

"I never thought I'd get here," Nelson told PEOPLE ahead of the event, crediting performing to his longevity and adding, "I get a lot of fun out of playing for an audience. There's a great energy exchange there. It's what keeps me going."

In December 2025, Nelson's wife Annie D'Angelo, then 69, joked to The New Yorker that her husband was "Benjamin Buttoning" her.

According to the outlet, Nelson regularly did sit-ups, arm rolls, leg lifts and jogs in place, saying, "I'm in pretty good shape, physically, for 92. Woke up again this morning, so that’s good."

In October 2021, the Star Trek actor with the iconic voice made history when he traveled on Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin space shuttle, becoming the oldest living person to go into space.

Upon turning 93 in March 2024, Shatner shared that his secret to staying "energetic" at his age was "staying engaged in life" and "curious."

"But the luck has a lot to do with it in your health," Shatner told PEOPLE. "Your life's energy, the soul energy of your body, is a product of health. If you're sick, you can't be energetic. You're dying. So my luck has been, I've been healthy all my life."

Dick Van Dyke

From left: Dick Van Dyke poses for a portrait, circa 1960; Dick Van Dyke is photographed at his home in Malibu, Calif., on April 21, 2016Credit: Roxanne McCann/Getty; Michael Ochs Archives/Getty

A beloved actor and comedian, Van Dyke charmed audiences for decades on The Dick Van Dyke Show and in films like Mary Poppins (1964), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968) and Night at the Museum (2006).

In his cameo in the 2018 film Mary Poppins Returns, Van Dyke showed that he hadn't aged a day since he starred in the original. That was also evident in a flash mob thrown for his 90th birthday in 2015.

Van Dyke celebrated his 100th birthday on Dec. 13, 2025, marking the occasion with a low-key family gathering that included a performance by musician Jon Batiste and a birthday speech complete with the centenarian's signature humor.

"This is the biggest day of my life — and the longest," he said, jokingly, as the crowd laughed and cheered during the birthday festivities. "I've done a lot of interviews because of my birthday. Every interviewer says the same thing: 'So, what is it like being 100 years old?' And I say, 'It's not enough.' "

Van Dyke, who shares four children with his late ex-wife Margie Willett, married Arlene Silver in 2012, and he has credited her for keeping him young at heart.

He even wrote a book, 2025's 100 Rules for Living to 100, infused with his joyful outlook.

"When you expire, you expire," he told PEOPLE in November 2025. "I don't have any fear of death for some reason. I can't explain that, but I don't. I've had such a wonderfully full and exciting life. That I can't complain."

Though he hasn't had many public appearances in recent years, ahead of his 95th birthday, he told the Austrian newspaper Kurier that he's still in good physical shape and no one needs to worry about his health "for a long time yet."

"There's no reason why a man can't get better with age," he said in the interview published on May 30, 2025. "And I have much more experience today. Sure, there are directors who lose their touch at a certain age, but I'm not one of them."

Like Hedren, Kim Novak, who turned 91 on Feb. 13, 2024, was one of the "Hitchcock blondes."

Best known for her role in 1958's Vertigo, she left Hollywood more than half a century ago to pursue an art career. However, her performances in 1950s films continue to be among the most talked-about in history. =

In September 2025, Novak was honored with the Icon Award at the Deauville American Film Festival in France.

"What's wonderful is sometimes movies get less appreciated later, and people get less appreciated," she told PEOPLE in February 2023. "But with me, it's worked the opposite. I'm so grateful because I've become more respected as an actress ... I think that the style is more appreciated, and so my life has grown richer the longer I've been around on this earth."

Previously, in February 2021, she told PEOPLE, "I don't keep track of the time. If I did, I'd be an old lady, and I'm not an old lady. I'm still riding my horse. I stay as healthy as I can."

Ahead of the documentary Mel Brooks: The 99 Year Old Man!, which premiered on HBO Max in January 2026, Brooks told PEOPLE that he believed there was a reason he and two of his closest friends and comedy legends, Carl Reiner and Sid Caesar, who died in 2020 and 2014, respectively, all lived into their 90s.

"We all laughed a lot," Brooks said. "I think laughing keeps you healthy and happy."

During a chat for Interview magazine with her Law & Order: Organized Crime costar Christopher Meloni in October 2023, she joked that her packed calendar was possible because "everybody else who could play those parts has already died, so I'm the only actress still standing who can play the great-grandmother or something."

Burstyn — who reprised her career-making Exorcist role nearly 50 years after the 1973 original — added, "I try to have the first words out of my mouth be, 'Thank you.' Thank you that I'm alive. Thank you that I'm safe. Thank you that I'm healthy. Thank you that I'm 90 and still going."

The Broadway legend has remained a busy actor into his 90s, including making a cameo in Lin-Manuel Miranda's Tick, Tick… Boom! and on three episodes of the 2022 FX thriller The Old Man. He earned a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2023 Tonys, presented to him by Jennifer.

When asked ahead of his 90th birthday in 2022 if he ever imagined becoming such a prolific actor as a young boy growing up in Cleveland, Grey told PEOPLE, "No! I didn't. I've never thought about it, actually, and I never thought [about] this number that I'd be associated with: 9-0."

Dame Judi Dench, who was bestowed her title in 1970, has always been as regal as the roles she's played over her six-decade career. She turned 90 on Dec. 9, 2024.

Dench began her career in theater in her native England in the late 1950s, then transitioned to film and television, though she remained a major stage player. Some of her biggest roles included portraying Bridget Mayor on Behaving Badly, Queen Victoria in 1997's Mrs. Brown and M, James Bond's boss (the first woman to play the part!) in the 007 franchise from 1995 to 2012.

Over the years, Dench has won many accolades, including Golden Globe, Tony and BAFTA awards. She's been nominated for eight Oscars and famously won one in 1999 for Best Supporting Actress for her eight-minute performance as Queen Elizabeth I in 1998's Shakespeare in Love.

The Oscar winner just asks that you don't call her a national treasure.

"It's a terrible label. So dusty, so dreary," she told The Guardian in January 2021, noting that she felt suffocated by the label.

Dench first revealed in 2012 that she had been diagnosed with age-related macular degeneration. In the years since, she's largely stepped away from acting, telling ITV News in November 2025 that she "can't recognize anybody now." She shared on The Graham Norton Show in November 2023 that her photographic memory helped her learn lines, but that "has become impossible."

St. Martin's Press announced in March 2026 that Dench was releasing a new memoir, Is It Too Late to Make a Run For It?, later that year.

Sophia Loren has been making waves since the 1950s. She entered her first beauty pageant at age 14 and was a finalist in Miss Italia 1950, and began acting professionally not long after. The Italian icon had a storied film career, appearing in nearly 100 movies alongside greats like Marlon Brando and Clark Gable.

Loren won the Best Actress Oscar in 1961 for Two Women, though she famously didn't attend the ceremony, and received an Honorary Oscar in 1991. She also took home five Golden Globe Awards and one Grammy over the years and was half of one of the most iconic photos in Hollywood history.

Though her schedule slowed down as she got older, Loren still made occasional film appearances, including in son Edoardo Ponti's 2020 project The Life Ahead. In October 2022, she stepped out to open her namesake restaurant in Milan.

Loren turned 90 on Sept. 20, 2024, and celebrated with a birthday dinner, where she sparkled in an elegant, glittering silver Giorgio Armani Privé gown and was serenaded with a special rendition of "Happy Birthday."
