Chad Lowe Shared His Pride in Being a “Girl Dad” Before 13-Year-Old Daughter Fiona’s Death

Chad Lowe was the proudest “girl dad” in an interview conducted a few years before the tragic death of his daughter Fiona.

The Pretty Little Liars actor and his family announced that the 13-year-old died on September 29.

Lowe and his wife Kim Painter also share daughters Mabel, 17, and Nixie, 10.

Chad Lowe gushed about the “privilege” of raising daughters in a heartwarming interview conducted a few years before the tragic death of his middle daughter Fiona.

The Melrose Place actor—who announced the “devastating” passing of the 13-year-old in a family statement on September 29—was in proud “girl dad” mode as he opened up about raising three young women after growing up in an all-boy household in 2024.

Lowe, who’s the younger brother of Parks and Recreation actor Rob Lowe, shared on the “Still Here” podcast, “It’s so interesting because [I’m] always wanting to have my own experiences and not live in the shadow or follow in the footsteps of somebody.” Chad and Rob also share step brothers Micah Dyer and Justin Lowe.

The 58-year-old—who also shares daughters Mabel, 17, and Nixie, 10, with wife Kim Painter—explained, “I get the experience of being a girl dad. I feel like having daughters is such an incredible privilege. I look at the world from really their perspective, and I see the world and a lot of the injustices in the world from their perspective.”

However, the Life Goes On actor was quick to emphasize that “it’s not all doom and gloom.” He said, “Society is changing. I see how we’re really becoming conscious of the role of women. We may, who knows, have the first female president. [We’re] really empowering women and seeing how much women have to offer. I personally think that if women were in charge of nations, we’d be a lot more peaceful.”

Lowe’s family announced they “are deeply heartbroken” by Fiona’s passing in a statement shared with People on Tuesday. They remembered their “beloved Fiona” being a “loving young girl who was smart, creative, and loved to dance.” The Pretty Little Liars actor shared, “She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives.”

They concluded their statement, “Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time. If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, please reach out to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.”
