Staffers at CNN are currently in “panic” after Netflix’s planned merger with Warner Bros. Discovery fell through, according to a new report by Status. On Thursday, news broke stating that the streamer had reportedly refused to increase its offer for the takeover. Paramount Skydance, its rival in the bidding war, is now poised to purchase the company.

Paramount Skydance chief, David Ellison, is widely viewed as an ally of Donald Trump. Ellison’s appointment of conservative political commentator Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief of CBS News, as well as its subsequent fallout, could now be replicated at CNN. If the deal goes through, the liberal-leaning news network may find itself bound by restrictions to appease Trump’s administration.

Earlier this month, CNN reporter Anderson Cooper left his 20-year post as presenter on 60 Minutes. Although unconfirmed by the journalist, numerous reports claimed Bari’s appointment to the CBS network played a role in his departure.

Furthermore, last year, Bari pulled a 60 Minute special investigating the Trump Administration’s deportation policy. Titled Inside CECOT, a 60 Minutes Special, the report detailed an El Salvador prison holding illegal immigrants.

“We are doomed,” one CNN staffer told Status. “We are f*cked,” another anonymous source said. “Everybody is reeling about the obvious things,” said a third staffer, in reference to what the outlet referred to as “the Bari Weiss treatment.”

Should the Paramount Skydance merger with Warner Bros Discovery go through, Ellison will be in charge of several film and television networks. In addition to CNN, these include MTV, HBO, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, DC Studios, New Line Cinema, and more.

One potential example of how CBS treats Trump critics is Stephen Colbert, host of The Late Show. The comedian’s show was denied for renewal last year, despite strong ratings. The scrapping of the show has long been suspected as a bid by CBS to appease the President, following a $16 million lawsuit over a 60 Minutes report about Kamala Harris. This theory is also touted by Stephen himself, who accused CBS of engaging in a “big fat bribe” to Trump.
