Who doesn't love seeing those thrills inside the kitchen of any given anxiety-inducing competition show?
If you didn't think there were enough delicious offerings in this subgenre of television, you're in luck: A new reality show based around preparing the next great meal is now in the works at Netflix.
And to make it all the more exciting, the cooking competition series is based on a hit video game. Who would have thought?
Overcooked is a popular game franchise whose rights A24 has acquired in order to develop its hit concept into an all-new TV show, Deadline reports. The celebrated media company has partnered with Netflix to bring the unscripted series adaptation to life; therefore, fans of both the video game and simply cooking shows in general will theoretically get to see the finished product drop on the streaming giant down the line.
From developer Ghost Town Games, Overcooked involves 1 to 4 players working together as chefs to prepare, cook and serve meals against the clock in kitchens filled with various obstacles and hazards. Players must focus on teamwork, communication and coordination to successfully complete orders before customers get angry and storm out.
The first Overcooked game was released in 2016 by publisher Team17 on PlayStation 4, Windows and Xbox One, with a Nintendo Switch version following in 2017, Deadline noted on Wednesday, Nov. 5. It won twice at the 2017 BAFTA Games Awards, for best British game and family game. A sequel, Overcooked 2, then dropped in 2018.
Netflix is also home to the new cooking competition Next Gen Chef, which premiered in September. Beloved Food Network star Anne Burrell, who died in August at age 55, appeared as a guest judge on the show's finale, which marked her final TV appearance.
The episode concluded with a simple, emotional dedication: “In memory of Chef Anne Burrell.”
