Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attended a gala event in Canada on August 7.

Foster set the record straight on a viral video that emerged from the event’s red carpet where he appeared to ignore Meghan.

The soiree celebrated 40 years of The David Foster Foundation, the namesake organization of the composer who is friends with the couple, along with Foster’s wife, Katharine McPhee.

David Foster is speaking out about viral rumors that he “snubbed” Meghan Markle at a recent gala event held on behalf of his namesake foundation.

A video of Harry and Meghan on the red carpet on August 7 went viral after it appeared that Foster ignored Meghan, later returning with his wife, Katharine McPhee, where the two couples posed for photos together.

In a statement to People, Foster explained that he “had already greeted our friends, the duke and duchess, at the entrance 10 minutes before the red carpet encounter. They both, graciously and selflessly, gave their time and went beyond to engage with everyone.”

“Harry and Meghan are dear friends of mine,” he added. “Anyone watching can see there was no awkward moment, and certainly no snub.”

He concluded his statement by adding, “It’s sad that certain media chose to deceive a red carpet encounter for clickbait. They turned simple ‘positioning’ to get the best photo into a hurtful lie.”

Meghan and McPhee are friends and have known one another since childhood, People reported; in more recent years, Prince Harry and Foster have become friends, as well.

At the event in Canada celebrating the 40th anniversary of the David Foster Foundation, Meghan wore an asymmetrical black gown by Canadian brand Greta Constantine, which she paired with Princess Diana’s diamond and sapphire butterfly earrings. She carried a black satin Gucci clutch and finished off her look with black Stuart Weitzman sandals.

The David Foster Foundation provides financial support to Canadian families with children in need of life-saving organ transplants. According to People, the August 7 gala raised $14.5 million for the organization.

Back in 2019—not long before Harry and Meghan’s step back as working members of the royal family in early 2020—Foster arranged for the couple to stay at a mansion on Vancouver Island owned by one of his friends, he told The Daily Mail. He said that he was glad the two were able to “go under the radar for so long” while there.

“I was really happy to be able to help them find a respite just to take a little time off,” he continued.

“David’s the resource guy—he knows all the places,” McPhee said of the arrangement, per Page Six. “He loves to help people, who we just hope they end up somewhere where they feel like they can really just settle down.”

Harry and Meghan ultimately relocated to the United States—Montecito, California, specifically—in 2020, where they’re raising kids Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5.
