Audio messages play an important role in Voicemails for Isabelle — and so does music.
The new Netflix rom-com, which premiered on June 19, stars Zoey Deutch as Jill, an aspiring baker in San Francisco, who is grieving the death of her younger sister Isabelle (Ciara Bravo).
Jill processes the loss by leaving voicemails for her sister, updating her about her life. Unbeknownst to Jill, Izzy's phone number has been reassigned to Wes (Nick Robinson), who falls in love with Jill through the voicemails she thinks she is leaving for her sister.
The movie's opening minutes feature a kitchen singalong to Robyn's "Dancing on My Own" — but that's only the beginning of the pop songs that fill the soundtrack of the film. Este Haim and Amanda Yamate, who created the score for Voicemails for Isabelle, said they were inspired by the "palette of the needle drops" in the movie.
"We knew off the bat that we were going to get to touch on the very raw scenes where [Jill is] talking to her sister, where she's feeling that grief," Haim told PEOPLE. "So, we felt like with live strings and with live vocal harmonies, that was going to bring a real, raw, human element to Jill's character."
From Kesha and Benson Boone to multiple tracks by Taylor Swift, here is a complete guide to the songs in Voicemails for Isabelle.
“Dancing on My Own” by Robyn
According to the movie's music supervisor, Season Kent, "Dancing on My Own" is "about Izzy's love and how she's sadly not the one who gets to dance with Jill."
"It's everything from the tempo and sound quality that the driving synths express to the anthemic quality and relatability of Robyn's lyrics that make it so special," Kent told Netflix's Tudum.
The song bookends the movie and is featured at both the beginning and end of the film.
“Almost Happy” by Laces
In the film, Jill wakes up in her apartment and prepares breakfast before riding the bus to her restaurant job.
"This song reflects who I am in my day to day life," Laces told Ladygunn in a July 2021 interview about the song.
“To Build a Home” by The Cinematic Orchestra
The emotional 2007 song by the Cinematic Orchestra soundtracks the heartbreaking scenes while Jill is coming to terms with the death of her sister.
It also replays later in the movie when Jill visits her sister's childhood bedroom.
“JOYRIDE.” by Kesha
The 2024 song by Kesha was her first single as an independent artist after splitting with RCA Records and Vector Management in June 2023.
She wrote the chaotic track with Madison Love and Zhone, according to Rolling Stone.
“Walking at a Downtown Pace” by Parquet Courts
"Walking at a Downtown Pace" is a single from Parquet Courts' 2021 album, Sympathy for Life.
The track is featured in a montage of Wes dealing with his real estate clients.
“Hey Daddy (Daddy's Home)” by Usher
The 2010 track by Usher plays while Jill is on a date with Tyler (Toby Sandeman).
“Electric Love” by Børns
The bouncy dance track by Børns plays when Jill and Wes attend a live taping of Tyler's podcast.
“Boys Wanna Be Her” by Peaches
Peaches' rock banger blasts while Jill competes in a soufflé bake-off against Arthur (Lukas Gage).
“marjorie” by Taylor Swift
Kent and director Leah McKendrick always had "marjorie" in mind for the film, but they told Tudum that they thought it was a "long shot."
"Once we tried it in the cut, that was it — we had to figure out a way to make it happen," Kent continued.
“De Primeras Veces” by Ceshia Ubau

"De Primeras Veces" plays at the restaurant where Jill and Wes go to have breakfast tacos.
“Something Like This” by Cil
The rock track plays while Jill shows Wes around San Francisco.
“San Francisco Blues” by Peggy Lee
The classic tune by Peggy Lee plays while Wes becomes an impromptu guide while on a San Francisco tour bus.
“I Left My Heart in San Francisco” by Tony Bennett
Wes leads the tourists in a singalong of "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" — and the classic track briefly plays as he is escorted off the bus. Shortly after, a kiss scene follows.
"A lot of the cues that we wrote were either going into or coming out of a needle drop. On that cue, we're coming out of everyone singing, 'I Left My Heart in San Francisco,' " Yamate told Tudum. "We were just trying to make it as sweeping and romantic as we could."
“Either Way I Lose” by MeShell Ndegeocello
"Either Way I Lose" is the chill and relaxing dinner music when Jill cooks for Wes.
“Cherish You” by Mikky Ekko
"Cherish You" can be heard in the scene where Jill cooks for Wes and tells him about the death of Isabelle.
“Waking Up Slow (Piano Version)” by Gabrielle Aplin
Gabrielle Aplin's piano ballad plays when Wes carries Jill to bed after she falls asleep on the couch.
“Beige” by Yoke Lore
The 2017 track by Yoke Lore plays during the wedding of Andy (Harry Shum Jr.) and Breeda (McKendrick), in which Wes is the best man.
“Ride the Storm” by Goldford
"Ride the Storm" is the music at the wedding reception, where Jill discovers Wes has been receiving her voicemails intended for Isabelle.
“Show Me Love” by Robyn
The classic song by Robyn plays over the montage while Jill starts her own dessert nachos food truck.
“Lights” by Donna Missal
Donna Missal performs "Lights" in the movie. It is also the opening track on the official Voicemails for Isabellesoundtrack.
“New Year's Day” by Taylor Swift
Voicemails for Isabelle features three songs by Swift — something that elated Deutch, a self-proclaimed fan of the singer.
"I'm a Swiftie, and it meant a lot, clearly. I don't know how it happened. I'm thrilled," the actress told PEOPLE. "When I saw the first cut, I was like, 'Oh, it's temp music. What are you going to actually get there?' She was like, 'No, we got them.' "
“Look What You Made Me Do” by Taylor Swift
The Reputation lead single is just one of the multiple Swift songs featured in the movie.
“Beautiful Things” by Benson Boone
The lyrics of Boone's hit song, from his 2024 album Fireworks & Rollerblades, fit with the emotional love story when Jill and Wes have a romantic reunion.
“The theme of the song is just begging someone to stay. It's needing something so badly that you're just terrified to lose it,” Boone told Genius, per NBC.
“New Touch” by Caveboy
"New Touch" is heard in the final scene of the movie, when Jill's food truck has become a success.
