- *Bridgerton *season 5 is officially in production.
- Set two years after season 4, it centers on Lady Francesca Stirling and Michaela Stirling, marking the series' first season focused on a queer romance.
- Showrunner Jess Brownell said season 5 is fueled by "big-time yearning."
**Warning: This article contains spoilers for *Bridgerton *season 4, part 2.**
Another Bridgerton has finally found their perfect match. Season 4 of Netflix's wildly popular (and delightfully steamy) series follows Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) as he finally* *gets his own love story.
At a glittering masquerade ball, he's instantly drawn to the mysterious "Lady in Silver." Benedict assumes she's high society, but in reality, she's just a maid named Sophie (Yerin Ha). Despite all the controversial offers and obstacles trying to keep them apart, the two make it down the aisle and say "I do."
With another Bridgerton off the market, fans are wondering who's next? Here's everything you need to know about *Bridgerton** *season 5.

Why, yes — *Bridgerton *is returning for a fifth season. At Netflix's Upfront in May 2025, the streamer announced that the Shondaland darling had been renewed for seasons 5 and 6.
The show's official Instagram account joined the fun, announcing the renewal in a manner most fitting for the Ton: through a Lady Whistledown letter.

On March 24, Netflix announced that *Bridgerton *season 5 will dive into the love story between Lady Francesca Stirling (Hannah Dodd) and her late husband John's cousin, Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza). This is a significant moment for the series, marking its first season built around a queer romance.
"It feels groundbreaking. Obviously, there are a lot of great shows that have depicted queer love. We're not the first by any means," showrunner Jess Brownell told Netflix's Tudum. "But to make an entire *Bridgerton *season about a sapphic relationship feels huge."
According to the synopsis, *Bridgerton* season 5 picks up two years after Lord John Stirling's (Victor Alli) death and sees Francesca "reenter the marriage mart for practical reasons."
"But when John's cousin Michaela returns to London to tend to the Kilmartin estate, Fran's complicated feelings will have her questioning whether to stick to her pragmatic intentions or pursue her inner passions," the synopsis reads.

Shonda Rhimes reveals which 'Bridgerton' character she's considering for next spinoff

Brownell noted that while drama remains part of the story, season 5 is ultimately rooted in warmth and happiness.
"What is most exciting about season 5 is that it is going to be a season about queer joy. It is not going to be a season about queer trauma," she explained. "There are going to be difficulties for the characters and conflict in the same way there is for every *Bridgerton *character. But we are still always grounding our love stories in the fact that this series is about joy. It’s about humor."
She also noted that the season is driven by "big-time yearning," a feeling she said is central to sapphic relationships. "We had a lot of fun in the writers room for season 5 talking about what is really specific to women-loving-women relationships. Like the moment where you think, like, 'Oh gosh, are we just friends? Or is this more?' You know, the gay panic. We're having so much fun with it this season!"
Who’s in the cast of *Bridgerton *season 5?

While it's confirmed that Dodd and Baduza will reprise their roles as Francesca and Michaela, respectively,** **the full season 5 cast hasn't been officially announced yet. However, fans can expect much of the ensemble to return.
For Dodd, stepping into a leading role feels deeply personal. She told Tudum, "When you spend so much time with a character, you genuinely do want them to be happy. At the moment, [Francesca] is in such a devastating position. So I am really looking forward to her feeling like she deserves love."
She added that Francesca's journey has always been about trying to do the right thing, even when it hasn't worked out. This season offers something new, though, and Dodd said she's "really excited" to see Francesca "experience feeling loved [again] … and feeling enough within herself as well."
As for Baduza, she teased a very different kind of arc for Michaela — one that's all about letting her guard down. "Michaela … really struggles to show vulnerability to people that she doesn't know, especially because she’s had to hide so many parts of herself," she explained. "She's used to having all these walls up. I'm excited to tear down those walls and have her let Francesca in. I'm excited for people to see her wanted so deeply and so badly … I'm excited for people to see Michaela yearn for Francesca."
And, as the series has shown time and again, London's high society may soon see a few new faces stirring up gossip, romance, and just the right amount of scandal.
