Jennifer Garner opened up about the financial anxiety she faced after her split from Ben Affleck in 2015. The actress admitted that she stepped away from acting during her marriage to focus on raising her three children. As the actress revealed, this left her deeply worried about how she would support herself as a single woman.
Jennifer Says She āPanicked When I Was First Out of My Marriageā
While speaking on Emma Gredeās Aspire podcast, Garner revealed that she āpanicked when I was first out of my marriage and realized I had taken such a step back in my workā.
āSuddenly I realised, like, I donāt know how long Iāll be able to work. This isnāt a career thatās like, hey, youāre 60, youāre 55, youāre 43 ā come on, letās pay you more than youāve ever made. Thatās not been traditionally the role,ā she explained.
The former couple got married in 2005, separated in 2015, and finalized their divorce in 2018. They share three children togetherā Violet, Finn, and Samuel.
āI was suddenly like, wait a minute, I have to take care of myself. I have to take care of these kids. So what is it going to be?ā the mom of three added.
To restart her career, Garner had to work closely with her manager to chalk out safe career moves.
āShe was like, how can you work? And I said, I can work in Los Angeles. I canāt leave these kids for six months at a time. I would love to ā I love going on location ā but that is not this time in my career,ā she shared.
āAnd so itās like, okay, what can we make happen? How can we do it? And we just got really targeted and still about it.ā

Garner Opens Up About the Financial Pressure She Felt
In order to build lasting security, the actress co-founded the organic kidsā food brand Once Upon a Farm in 2017. āOnce Upon a Farm was very much a part of that play. Itās just the crazy thing is itās working,ā she said.
The brand hit a valuation of nearly $724 million, with her personal stake at $50 million, as reported by Forbes.
The star added, āItās not like you can just unfamous yourself. Life is expensive and you still have to kind of figure out how youāre going to live. And just because youāre well known by people does not mean that there is some great living being provided for you. And it became very serious to me really quickly as someone who had never given a lot of thought to money. Like, oh, I need to be an earner here.ā
She also joked about managing her finances carefully with her business manager. āAll he has to do is look at me funny and I convince myself that I am broke. My problem is⦠I give a lot of money away. So every now and then heās like, can you pump the brakes? So that is something that I had to cool my jets on.ā
Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, despite their divorce, are deeply committed to co-parenting their three children while managing their own personal lives.
Even after Affleckās divorce from Jennifer Lopez, he has maintained an active presence in Garnerās life. However, many insiders have reported that their close bond has caused friction with Garnerās current partner, John Miller.
