Joy Behar is temporarily out at The View after suffering an injury backstage ahead of Thursday’s taping.

Co-host Sunny Hostin explained the absences of both Behar and co-host Whoopi Goldberg at the beginning of the show.

“So, Whoopi [Goldberg] is still out filming a movie,” she said. “And, unfortunately, our dear friend Joy dislocated her shoulder.” Hostin also said, “Yeah, so she’s recovering and will be back soon.”

Hostin also noted that she was put into the show’s moderator seat, which is usually occupied by Goldberg or Behar, because she is the “next oldest” host. She joked, “Or, let’s say, seasoned. I like seasoned better!”

Regular co-hosts Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, and Alyssa Farah Griffin were also on the show, and the group was joined by guest co-host Sherri Shepherd (whose return to the show was planned when Goldberg’s absence was initially announced).

Behar joined the show during its first season in 1997 after first working as a producer on Good Morning America. She is the longest-running host in the show’s history. She briefly departed the show in 2013, and told Deadline at the time, “It seemed like the right time. You reach a point when you say to yourself, ‘Do I want to keep doing this?’ There are other things on my plate I want to do — I’ve been writing a play, I’ve been neglecting my standup.”

Behar returned to the show two years later in 2015. “Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in,” she said at the time. “I’m happy to be back home. And I’m looking forward to sticking my two cents into the hot topics, especially now that Hillary [Clinton] and the Donald [Trump] are in the spotlight.”

Shepherd departed the show in 2014. During her emotional farewell, she told the audience, “I cried in my dressing room for three years saying why am I at this table. I don’t know what I’m doing.” Her son Jeffrey also joined her for her final day.

Co-host Jenny McCarthy left the show the same year,  a move that followed co-creator Barbara Walters’ departure in May 2013.
