Keke Palmer says her latest role calls to mind one from earlier in her career: True Jackson

Keke Palmer says her latest role (as a woman who leads a group of shoplifters who steal and resell the clothes of a billionaire fashion designer) reminded her of another from earlier in her career: True Jackson.

Palmer, 32, currently stars in the film, I Love Boosters.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the movie's premiere, the actress recounted how the role called to mind True Jackson, VP — the Nickelodeon show in which she played the titular character from 2008 to 2011.

In True Jackson, Palmer played a savvy teenager hired to serve as the vice president of Youth Apparel at a fictional fashion company called "Mad Style."

Palmer has been acting for the better half of her life, following her breakout role in 2006's Akeelah and the Bee that skyrocketed her to fame.

But there was one big difference — that the villain in I Love Boosters, played by Demi Moore, is worlds different than the character of Max Madigan (the CEO of Mad Style) in True Jackson.

“The whole [Moore's character] Christie Smith, she was not a nice Max Madigan OK, she was not!” Palmer told THR.

Speaking to PEOPLE in 2025, the actress said she remembered being the "hottest thing in town," booking roles and getting record deals after her breakout, but there was a later time when even she wasn't sure what was next for her.

"That was kind of, like, the peak," she said. "Then I was no longer a child star, and I had to reexamine what kind of artist I wanted to be."
