Rimes said prioritizing her health has been a difficult but necessary decision after years of pushing through performances
LeAnn Rimes is getting candid about how life has been for her and her husband, Eddie Cibrian, lately.
Nearly one month after revealing that their 15th wedding anniversary was "filled with tears and worry" amid some "very tense, heart wrenching things happening at home with family," Rimes, 43, is giving her fans an explanation.
On Tuesday, May 12, the 9-1-1: Nashville star shared on her Substack that she and Cibrian, 52, "have a parent in rehab after going through a stroke a few weeks ago."
"So the heaviness in our hearts around that has been hard, too," she wrote. "Eddie and i are both only children, which means a lot has fallen onto my sweet husband's shoulders. watching someone you love carry so much while you're barely able to carry yourself is its own kind of heartbreak."

Rimes wrote that watching "your loved ones hurt while you're hurting yourself is just… a lot."
She also shared that "the helplessness, the vulnerability, the uncertainty" are among the "hardest parts" of the experience.
The singer, who recently postponed a set of performances "due to severe illness," said that her sickness has been "incredibly humbling."

While she did not reveal the exact nature of her illness, she said she's days away from needing to be performance-ready but "my throat still hurts, my voice is still healing, and the doctor is saying 'you need more time.' "
"And for someone whose voice has been her life, her outlet, her safety net, that kind of uncertainty feels terrifying," she said.
Rimes said that canceling and rescheduling shows has been "one of the toughest decisions and hardest inner battles" she's faced throughout her career.

"For years, i've overridden my body and mind, performing at times when i knew i shouldn't, out of fear of disappointing my fans, who mean so much to me. and the guilt has always weighed heavily, which doesn't help my healing one bit," she wrote.
At this point, however, Rimes has gotten "clarity about what's important," writing that her "health has to come first."
Rimes said that she finds it "profoundly entertaining" that "the internet continues talking s--- about lives they know absolutely nothing about."

"So right now, i'm taking it day by day, hour by hour sometimes, doing everything i possibly can to heal," she said.
Although she is "sick, emotionally overwhelmed, exhausted, scared" about her voice, Rimes said she actually feels "pretty good," and her "energy is solid."
She ended her post by apologizing to fans who were supposed to be at one of her canceled shows, telling them she needs "time."
"Sometimes showing up doesn't mean pushing harder," she said. "Sometimes it means listening when your body says 'enough,' " she said.
