The Mega Millions jackpot now stands at $125 million ahead of the drawing on Friday, Dec. 26, just two days after one ticket holder in Arkansas won Powerball's $1.70 billion jackpot on Christmas Eve.
If one lucky person hits the jackpot, they have two options: take home a one-time, lump-sum cash payment of $56.9 million, or receive an immediate payment followed by annual checks, each 5% larger than the previous year.
In 2025, Mega Millions has seen six jackpot winners, with the latest occurring on Dec. 2, when a player from New Jersey won $90 million.

What is Mega Millions, and which states participate?
Mega Millions is a multi-state lottery game that costs $5 a game. Players may pick six numbers from two separate pools of numbers - five different numbers from 1 to 70 (the white balls) and one number from 1 to 24 (the gold Mega Ball) - or select Easy Pick/Quick Pick. You win the jackpot by matching all six winning numbers in a drawing. In the event of multiple jackpot winners, the jackpot prize will be shared.
You can play the lottery in 45 states plus the District of Columbia and the U. S. Virgin Islands.

How to buy tickets for Mega Millions
To play the Mega Millions, you have to buy at least one ticket for $5. You can do this at a variety of locations, including your local convenience store, gas station or even grocery store. In some states, Mega Millions tickets can be bought online.
