Michelle Obama is showing her love for Jenna Bush Hager.
The 61-year-old former first lady appeared on Bush Hager’s show, Today with Jenna & Friends, on Tuesday, Nov. 4, to discuss her new book, The Look. While there, Obama took some time to praise the daughter of former President George W. Bush and first lady Laura Bush.
“It’s a pleasure to be with you, again, I am so proud of you, really so proud of you and Barbara for being the gracious women that you are in the world, just showing up every single day,” Obama said of Bush Hager and her twin sister, Barbara Bush Pierce.

Wiping away tears, Bush Hager replied, “Now, I’m crying. You know I cry at a drop. That’s the loveliest for you to share that with me.”
Earlier in the show, Bush Hager reflected on how it’s been 17 years since her mother, Laura, told her she wanted to invite Michelle and her daughters, Malia Obama and Sasha Obama, to the White House to show them around.

“You knew how unsettling it could feel to move from your normal life into that house,” Michelle noted.
She continued, “The fact that you guys took the time and showed them all the secret little fun things that little girls did, you really made them feel loved and seen. I’ve said this to you before, but I am forever grateful for you being that role model to them.”
Bush Hager added that she and Michelle have had a “special relationship since then.”
The two shared that they have been “pen pals” through the years amidst their various milestones.

Michelle said that the two women exchanged notes as Bush Hager got married and became a new mother. She's now a mom of three, sharing children Mila, 12, Poppy 10, and Hal, 6, with husband Henry Chase Hager.
“We would exchange some wonderful letters because we were raised properly," Michelle said. "You were one of the few people your age who would actually respond to a letter.”
The women also share a bond thanks to Bush Hager’s father, President Bush, who has a special friendship with Michelle.
