Princess Catherine and Prince William adhere to some peculiar protocols as senior royals but there's one that has been described as "totally shocking."

When flying, there are multiple safety measures in place to protect the royals. A former British Airways flight attendant and ex-Love Island contestant, Helena Ford, has disclosed on the Private Parts podcast that the Prince and Princess of Wales aren't permitted to fly in the "highest cabin" available.

Speaking to Hello! Magazine, she said: "I think there is a thing in place where they can't fly in the highest cabin, so if there's a first class, they have to sit in business, and if there isn't a first class, they have to sit in Traveller Plus." This comes as Prince William made a secret visit without Princess Kate amid Diana memoir scandal.

She explained that on a flight she worked on, William and Catherine were positioned in business class.

Addressing how security operates for the royals when they are flying on commercial flights, she said: "When we had Will and Kate, it was in Business because we had First-but the whole of Business was security dressed as normal people, so you wouldn't know."

According to the Royal Observer, British Airways is the preferred option for the royals when it comes to air travel.

Ford continued by stating that she didn't understand why the royals could not occupy the highest cabin, reports the Express.

Discussing the flight arrangements for prominent figures further, she added: "So I've had Boris Johnson on a flight in Traveller Plus before. They can't sit in the highest cabin."

She also revealed "they all have fake names," when traveling in this manner.

There are additionally established protocols requiring senior royals to fly separately, as a precaution against any unfortunate incidents occurring during transit.

Despite this, the Wales family has been flying together in recent years, as deploying two separate aircraft on every trip is neither economical nor cost-effective.

A royal spokesperson was reported to have stated in 2014: "While there is no official rule on this, it is something that the Queen has the final say on."
