Princess Kate Middleton, 43, gave a subtle nod to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, with her Remembrance Day look on Sunday, Nov. 9. The Princess of Wales wore an exquisitely tailored black jacket with a black fascinator, lace scarf, and the traditional silk poppy brooch. However, it was her earrings that made the look extra special.

The Collingwood pearl teardrop earrings were once owned by her husband Prince William's mother, and had been an engagement gift ahead of her marriage to the then-Prince Charles. Princess Diana was seen wearing the elegant earrings at multiple iconic events, including a dinner at the British Embassy in Washington, DC, in November 1985 and a November 1988 dinner hosted by President Mitterand at the Elysee Palace in Paris, France.

Princess Kate never had the honor of meeting Princess Diana, as she tragically died in a car crash on Aug. 31, 1997, at just 36 years old. Prince William was 15 years old at the time, and his younger brother, Prince Harry, was only 12.

Kate has been careful to keep her mother-in-law's memory alive, often wearing pieces of her jewelry. Even her engagement ring previously belonged to Diana. In April 2023, she revealed she never even had to resize the special ring, saying she happened to be "exactly the same size" and was "honored" to wear it.

In the rare moment of candor speaking about Diana, Middleton said that she thought "she would be brilliant" as a grandmother to their three kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. "We miss her every day," she added.

Middleton appeared to be emotional at the 2025 Remembrance Sunday, wiping away a tear and sharing whispers and smiles with Queen Camilla during the event at the Cenotaph. Every year, the British Royal Family joins politicians, veterans, and the public to honor those who died in combat. Middleton has never missed the event since her marriage to Prince William began in 2011.
