Interview With the Vampire Season 4 is official, and so is its second name change. Following The Vampire Lestattitle change in Season 3, Season 4 will be called Queen of the Damned. (Get your first look at Season 4 in our Vampire Lestat finale cover story.)
The renewal and name change were announced on Friday, July 24, during the showâs Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con. The other big piece of news from the panel is that executive producer and writer Hannah Moscovitch is taking over as showrunner, replacing Rolin Jones, who created the series and has served as showrunner, executive producer, and writer since Season 1.
Moscovitch was a writer on the first two seasons and was bumped up to executive producer in Season 3. Sheâs been writing with Jones since Season 1, but Jones will not be in the writersâ room for Season 4.
Hereâs everything there is to know about Anne Riceâs Queen of the Damned.
Why does Interview With the Vampire change the showâs title?
Interview With the Vampire was the AMC dramaâs original title, and the only title that has lasted for two seasons so far. The first two seasons covered the plot of Anne Riceâs first book in The Vampire Chronicles. The narrator and tone changed in book two, The Vampire Lestat. Season 3 adapts that novel, and it delivered a very different style and tone to align with Riceâs work.
The first title change, announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, was a shock to fans at first. Jones said during the Season 3 preview panel, âAnne Rice didnât write a book called the Interview With the Vampire Part 3. Season 3 is officially The Vampire Lestat.â

The name change is a stylistic choice that reflects stylistic changes. Of the scores of book adaptations on TV, none of them name individual seasons after the specific books being adapted. For example, HBOâs Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is adapting one Dunk and Egg novella per season, but the showâs title isnât changing.
Rice made a unique choice to switch narrators in her second book, and Lestat became the main character/narrator of The Vampire Chronicles after that, even when the plot focuses on other characters and Lestat isnât present in the scenes. Renaming each season after the book itâs adapting is a fitting decision for a Vampire Chronicles adaptation, even if itâs a rare TV move. Plus, they own the adaptation rights to all of the books in The Vampire Chronicles, and there has never been an adaptation of The Vampire Lestat onscreen until Season 3. So, why not change the name when you already have the IP? We give them points for the originality here.

Who is narrating AMCâs Queen of the Damned?

Sophie Giraud/AMC
Louis (Jacob Anderson) narrated the first two seasons, and Lestat (Sam Reid) took over in Season 3. Jones told TV Insider that their adaptation of The Vampire Lestat is a story meant to be told in two parts. Lestatâs narrations were documented through his reflective album called The Failures, recorded in his living room after Akasha (Sheila Atim) returned and caused apocalyptic events (off-screen). As of the Season 3 finale, thereâs still half of The Failures album to hear. While it hasnât been explicitly stated that Lestat is the narrator of Season 4, itâs implied that he will be.

âThereâs a clue into the storytelling that we did this year, which was probably frustrating for some people,â Jones told TV Insider. âThereâs a really, really strict series of points of views in Queen of the Damned that Iâm pretty sure will be embraced in Season 4. Everyoneâs going to get to tell their version of their things. And so in The Vampire Lestat, when we were doing The Failures, there were obviously times when we could have gone deeper into, where was Gabriella? Whatâs going on with Daniel? Thereâs a lot of time coming forward to be able to do that.â
âThis is a part one,â he continued. âAnd when a potential Season 4 comes out, everyone will see the puzzle and see the things that weâre missing this year and why. [With] this finale, we were really trying to get into the heart and soul of Lestat. And that was the subject: the vampire Lestat. Queen of the Damnedâs coming in, taking all those characters with her. But people should look to the structure of that book. We try to honor every year what Anne was doing. Go back and look at Season 1 and then what we did in Season 2. Theyâre all complementing each other a little bit.â
When does AMCâs Queen of the Damned premiere?
AMC didnât reveal whenSeason 4 will come out, but itâs been about two years of a wait between each previous season.
Who is in AMCâs Queen of the Damned cast?
An official cast list hasnât been announced, but expect Reid, Anderson, Atim, Assad Zaman, Eric Bogosian, and Jennifer Ehle to return. Delainey Haylesâ Claudia is still stuck in some kind of hell, and her new character, Regina, made it out of the finale alive, so thereâs a chance Hayles will be back in Season 4. Justin Kirkâs Raglan James is also likely to come back too, because of how important the Talamasca agent is in future books; heâs the titular character of book four, Tale of the Body Thief.
