On the set of the Christopher Nolan epic, he “didn’t even recognize” costar Zendaya and “didn’t even say hi,” he recalls
The two actors filmed three movies coming out in 2026: The Drama, The Odyssey and Dune: Part Three
Robert Pattinson and Zendaya star in three movies coming out in 2026. So you would think Pattinson would recognize his costar on the set of The Odyssey.
“I didn’t know that she was on the set the day that she was shooting,” Pattinson, 40, recalls to PEOPLE at the Monday, July 6 London premiere of Christopher Nolan‘s epic retelling of Homer’s myth (in theaters July 17).
“It’s so strange,” adds the British star. “We were so far away from each other and I didn’t even recognize — I didn’t even say hi.”

In the Matt Damon-starring The Odyssey, Pattinson plays the sleazy Antinous, a suitor to Anne Hathaway‘s stoic Penelope. Zendaya, 29, took on a less earthly role in the Greek myth: Athena, the goddess of wisdom and warfare.
Pattinson starred with Zendaya in The Drama, which was released in April, and after The Odyssey will reunite with her in Dune: Part Three, in theaters Dec. 18.

“She’s the best,” Pattinson says of the Euphoria Emmy winner. “So fun, so fun to hang out with, such a great actress.”
Speaking to GQ in January, the Twilight alum admitted that he hadn’t yet seen Zendaya’s work in the sprawling The Odyssey. “She’s incredible in The Drama as well and in all of them,” he said at the time.
At a trailer reveal event for Denis Villeneuve‘s Dune: Part Three in March, Pattinson joked that he suspected Zendaya “had something to do with” hooking him up with the sci-fi franchise. After chatting with her on the set of The Drama and asking, “Can I get in one of those Dune movies?” he booked the role of Scytale. “I know a guy,” quipped Zendaya.

Universal Pictures will release The Odyssey in theaters July 17. Its all-star cast includes Pattinson, Zendaya, Damon, Hathaway, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong’o, Samantha Morton and Charlize Theron.
Dune: Part Three is in theaters Dec. 18. Zendaya also stars in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, in theaters July 31. Among Pattinson’s other upcoming projects are the films Primetime, Here Comes the Flood and The Batman: Part II.
