Rory Culkin is opening up about the joys and challenges of fatherhood.

Rory, 37, chatted with PEOPLE exclusively during the premiere of his new Apple TV show, Nocturne, in New York City on Oct. 20. During the conversation, the actor dished on what life has been like since welcoming his daughter, Havoc Moon, with his partner, cinematographer Kate Arizmendi, in May.

“Fatherhood has been lovely. Really such a pleasure,” he says. “I mean, everyone was telling me how difficult it is — and it is — but that’s outweighed so much by the love.”

Many everyday experiences also feel different now that he’s a dad.

“Certain movies will hit harder now,” he explains. “Having a child introduces you to time, and now everything just feels a little heavier. I mean, when I have to say goodbye to her, I get choked up on the train … there’s just more gravity now, you know?”

And as to whether his famous older brothers, Macaulay Culkin, 46, and Kieran Culkin, 44 — who are also both dads — offered him any words of wisdom before he became a parent?

“Their advice was ‘You’ll figure it out. Everyone does … So, you know, just don’t worry,’ ” he says.

The actor, who is based in New York City,  also shared that he isn’t expecting any grand family Halloween plans — at least not this year.

“I got this little baby, so it’s not like we can go out or anything. We’re just gonna dress her up in something and then take a couple pictures and go to bed,” he tells PEOPLE.

Rory also opened up about his latest series, the psychological thriller Nocturne, which stars Liev Schreiber, Zazie Beetz and Stephen Graham.

He shared that he and Graham, 53, who starred in and co-created last year’s award-winning drama series Adolescence, developed a strong bond off-screen, which he said strengthened their on-screen chemistry.

“Stephen and I became really close … We went to the theater. We would go to museums together,” he says. “Rehearsals were great, but [our] discussions [outside of set] I feel like goes further. Because then you just build trust — you learn about each other. And the friendlier you are with an actor, the harder you can go onscreen. So he knew by the time we shot that first scene, he knew he could throw me up against the wall and we’re cool.”

Nocturne is out now on Apple TV. New episodes will air every Friday until Dec. 25.

Nocturne, which premiered Oct. 30 with the first two episodes, will release new episodes every Friday through Dec. 25 on Apple TV.
