Sarah Michelle Gellar is sharing warm memories of Michelle Trachtenberg
Trachtenberg died on Feb. 26, 2025 at age 39, after complications from diabetes mellitus
The late actress was best known for her roles as Georgina Sparks on Gossip Girl and Dawn Summers on Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Sarah Michelle Gellar is remembering Michelle Trachtenberg.
The actress, 48, shared photos of her Buffy, the Vampire Slayer costar as she looked back on their relationship and honored Trachtenberg on the first anniversary of her death.
On Feb. 26, 2025, Trachtenberg was found dead at age 39 as a result of complications of diabetes mellitus, the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner confirmed to PEOPLE.
"I’m not sure how it’s been a year. I’m one of the lucky ones who has over 30 years of memories with you. From our first day on set together, to less than a year later, when you were already taller than me," she wrote.
"But I first worked with [you] on All My Children. I watched you become a star with Harriet. You were great to my kids. Countless kids bdays you attended, even though I’m sure you had somewhere cooler to be," Gellar continued.
"But most of all, when I think of you, that smile that took up your entire face and brought so much joy to others is what comes to mind. You may not have been with us long enough, but we will make sure everyone remembers."

Gellar, who also worked with Trachtenberg on All My Children, also shared a tribute to her in October, on what would have been Trachtenberg's 40th birthday.
"When you turned 16, it was hard not to still see you as the little girl I met on All My Children. When you turned 21, I had to teach myself to not see you as the little sister anymore. I can’t imagine what 40 would have been like. This I know… it would be filled with love. Happy birthday @michelletrachtenberg."
The late actress was best known for her roles as Georgina Sparks on Gossip Girl and Dawn Summers on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Her entertainment career began after she landed roles on Nickelodeon's The Adventures of Pete & Pete and All My Children.
At the time of her death, a source told PEOPLE that Trachtenberg had recently undergone a liver transplant, with another insider revealing that the actress had been dealing with "health issues."
“She told friends she was struggling,” the source said. “She was really, really sick and open with those in her circle about how much she was struggling.”
