- Skyler Gisondo's Jimmy Olsen from *Superman* is the latest DC character to get their own spinoff.

- The TV show will focus on *Daily Planet* reporters investigating cases of villainous metahumans — and season 1 will be dedicated to Gorilla Grodd.

- The spinoff is being developed by the creators of *American Vandal*.

Jimmy Olsen's Deep Throat days in Metropolis aren't over.

Spinning off from this past summer's *Superman* movie is a new DC Studios TV show focused on Skyler Gisondo's *Daily Planet* photographer, ** can confirm. Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda, the creators of the Netflix mockumentary series *American Vandal*, will write, executive-produce, and showrun the project.

With the news also comes confirmation of James Gunn's plans for the DC Comics villain Gorilla Grodd.

The concept for the Jimmy Olsen show focuses on the character and other *Daily Planet* reporters as they investigate cases involving villainous metahumans. Grodd, a giant gorilla with extreme intelligence and mental abilities, will be the focus of the first season.

Gunn, the co-head of DC Studios and the director of *Superman*, previously teased plans for Grodd to EW around the movie's release in July. When asked if Lex Luthor's smart monkeys from that story were related to Grodd's origin, the filmmaker said, "No, no, no. Because I know exactly what that is. I love Gorilla Grodd, so got other plans for that guy. He's not a monkey, he's an ape!"

The character is most closely associated with speedster hero the Flash, having debuted in that character's comic run back in 1959. Grodd was also a prominent antagonist on the CW's live-action *The Flash* series, which featured actor David Sobolov as his voice.**

The initial plan for the Jimmy Olsen series is to not feature David Corenswet's Clark Kent or Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane. Also knowing the sensibilities of Perrault and Yacenda, who made the e-sports mockumentary *Players* for Paramount+ after *American Vandal*, we can assume the show will lean toward comedy.

Gisondo's Jimmy Olsen became one of the breakout characters from *Superman*. The character attempted to gather information on Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) from his confidential informant, Eve Teschmacher (Sara Sampaio), while simultaneously dodging her romantic advances. No word yet as to whether Eve will feature in the show.

Following the animated *Creature Commandos*, the live-action *Superman*, and this fall's *Peacemaker* season 2, the growing DC Studios roster will continue with a Milly Alcock-fronted *Supergirl* movie, an HBO *Lanterns* detective series, a *Clayface* movie about the notable Batman villain, and a *Man of Tomorrow* follow-up to *Superman*. A number of other projects across animation and live action, including a Wonder Woman movie, are also in the pipeline.

*The Hollywood Reporter* first reported the Jimmy Olsen spinoff news.
