Survivor Greece has been temporarily pulled off the air after a contestant was injured while spearfishing on a break from filming.
Stavros Floros, a 21-year-old beekeeper, was struck by a passing tourist boat.
According to reports, his left leg was partially amputated below the knee and his right ankle was also significantly injured.
Survivor Greece has been pulled off the air in the wake of a life-threatening incident involving a contestant “outside the competitive process of the reality show.”
Stavros Floros, a 21-year-old beekeeper, was spearfishing during a break from filming in the Dominican Republic on May 10 when a passing tourist boat “accidentally struck him” while he was in the water.
According to the Toronto Sun, the vessel’s propeller partially amputated Floros’ left leg below the knee and caused significant trauma to his right ankle.
“The contestant remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition and is out of danger,” Survivor Greece production company AcunMedya said in a statement.
“From the very first moment, there was an immediate response to provide assistance and safely transport the injured contestant, while the competent port authorities are investigating the causes of the incident in order to fully determine the circumstances,” continued AcunMedya.
