Tainy opened up about his approach to his forthcoming album Bestia

The Puerto Rican producer said he explored classical and live instrumentation

He also revealed why his collaboration with BACARDÍ Rum felt natural

Tainy is opening up about his Bestia era.

Following the success of his debut solo album Data in 2023, the Puerto Rican producer — who's worked with stars like Bad Bunny, J Balvin, Justin Bieber and Karol G — only felt excited about what the future had in store.

"It's always exciting to see what's next [but] there's always pressure," Tainy, 36, tells PEOPLE exclusively. "You create an album and people really accepted it and enjoyed it... You wanna continue that, but at the same time, I don't wanna be either repeating the same formulas or same sounds."

He continues, "It's been a time of exploring, searching for new sounds, inspiration and ideas. And I think I found something that really felt natural and exciting for me."

This time around, Tainy wants to do something "more dramatic." In terms of the instrumentation, he's looking into "classical" and live sounds he's utilized in the past for a blend of modern and older approach to music.

"That clash to me felt like, okay, this is the way to go. So I'm really excited for people to start hearing my approach for that," he says. "And the artists that I've been working with have all been super excited."

So far, Tainy's released four singles from the forthcoming album, which is anticipated to drop in 2026: "Kizao" with Rauw Alejandro, "Monstruo" with Feid, "Unica" with Karol G and "Rosita" with Rauw Alejandro and Jhayco."

The latter marked a reunion between Rauw Alejandro and Jhyaco, who were involved in a public feud in 2021 that led to diss tracks "Enterrauw" and "Hunter."

"I knew that was gonna happen because they're so talented," Tainy says. "Besides that, they are really close friends, that makes it mean a lot more."

"For me, it was something that I've been trying for a while, but you know how it is, life happens and everybody has moments, ups and downs and disagreements and not everything is aligned at the same time, but I really felt that if we gave it a chance, eventually it would be special," he adds. "And for them to give me that opportunity for me and my project, it meant the world."

In addition to BESTIA, Tainy recently reimagined Elvis Crespo's "Tu Sonrisa" for his partnership with BACARDÍ Rum and the brand's Do What Moves You campaign. Listen to the remix here.

Reimagining the classic was a "big responsibility" — and he wanted to make sure he did it justice. When he sat down to work on it, he made sure the song didn't lose its "essence" and was instead trying to figure out how to "merge sounds."

"'Tu Sonrisa' brings back my childhood memories in Puerto Rico and Elvis Crespo is a really big artist. So for us to come together and decide on 'Tu Sonrisa' as the one we want to bring into this new generation, it feels close to home," he says.

He continues, "I started working with different percussion elements, like different sections of the songs and parts of the instruments... Just trying to see what I can merge together that doesn't feel forced. And little by little, I found certain grooves and elements that elevated a little bit of what was already there."

As for his collaboration with BACARDÍ Rum, the Grammy-winning producer says it was only "natural" considering its ties to his home in Puerto Rico. Thinking back, BACARDÍ Rum sparks memories of nostalgia, "good times with friends" and enjoying a Cuba Libre, which is a beverage with BACARDÍ and Coca-Cola.

"I'm born and raised in Puerto Rico, so there's always been that connection between BACARDÍ and the island that I was born in," he says. "But going in deeper, I know [BACARDÍ] always had this connection with music throughout the years. So to see that I'm still here, 2026 working on music as a producer from PR and the opportunity came up for us to collaborate on this new project, it was a no-brainer."
