Taylor Swift joined Dakota Johnson during her hosting duties on Saturday Night Live on October 3.

The singer and actress joked about Johnson’s habit of dating musicians during the opening monologue.

Dakota Johnson returned to Saturday Night Live for her third time as host on October 3—and she had the unexpected support of an old friend. Much to the audience’s surprise, Taylor Swift made an unexpected cameo during Johnson’s opening monologue—which quickly became a lighthearted skit about Johnson’s penchant for dating musicians. You’ve got to love the self-awareness!

Johnson wore a red-hot archival 2013 Versace latex dress for her opening monologue. Much of the speech focused on her relationship drama. “I’ve been through two very public, very lame breakups with two very awesome musicians [since last hosting in 2024],” she said, seemingly referring to her June 2025 split from Chris Martin, as well as the reported end of her brief relationship with Role Model some time in 2026.

Johnson then clarified that she didn’t want to talk about her “personal life” in the monologue. Instead, she wanted to talk about her new film Verity, which she described as a “psychosexual thriller.” Then, she added, “So is dating musicians.”

“Some of them don’t wear shoes, some of them are terrible in bed, but all of them are in my DMs. It’s not my fault though. Some people leave concerts with merch, and I leave concerts with a two-and-a-half year relationship.”

Then, she turned her attention to her supportive friends. “They don’t judge me for dating these men, they’re actually really supportive,” she said, as the crowd erupted in applause as Johnson’s long-time friend appeared beside her on the stage wearing an off-the-shoulder checked minidress.

“Ladies and gentlemen, my literal therapist!” exclaimed Johnson.

“I’m not your therapist, actually,” Swift said. “You just show up once a week at my house with an empty bottle of wine and ask if I want some.”

“And then you flop on my couch and overshare,” she continued to joke, “and every so often I just say, ‘Damn, that’s crazy.’”

“Is that not a therapist,” retorted Johnson.

Swift continued, “And then I go, ‘Oh, well, you know, it’s getting late, I should probably go to bed,’” and then you say...”

“Sleepover, yay!” jumped in Johnson.

“And then I give you a Pedialyte and my security drives you home,” Swift concluded.

Johnson then returned to the topic of musicians. “I actually think I’m doing a public service by dating them, because, ladies, I am saving you a lot of money on Zoloft! So you’re welcome, America!” she said as she and Swift laughed.

“And also England, and parts of Ireland, and Cleveland, allegedly,” she added, in a sly reference to Swift’s new song of the same name.

Swift and Johnson shared a hug as the monologue came to an end.

Swift’s appearance on the show, her first in three years, comes after she and Johnson co-starred and twinned in Swift’s music video for the song “Patient Zero.” Johnson also presented an award to her long-time friend at the VMAs last weekend before Swift debuted the music video.
