Who knew Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia Rulfo) had a secret half-sister? The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 finale dropped a major twist by introducing Cobie Smulders’ Artemisia 'Emi' Finch, adding a surprising new connection for Mickey in Netflix’s hit legal drama.
Now, Cobie Smulders’ secret half-sister is set to headline her own spin-off series, filling the void as Netflix's legal series based on Michael Connelly's books takes its final bow with the fifth season.
Rumours about a Cobie Smulders-led spin-off were floating after the Season 4 finale. Deadline's latest report revealed that the spin-off pitch byThe Lincoln Lawyer executive producers Ted Humphrey, Dailyn Rodriguez and Matthew J. Lieberman was well received by Netflix, and the streamer has commissioned a script. No release date has been set for the project as of yet.

Mickey's half-sister was introduced in The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 finale
Cobie Smulders’ character was certainly a big surprise for the fans (and Mickey) because Emi is an original character who does not appear in Michael Connelly's books.
Fans might remember Mickey Haller managed to expose mob boss Alex Gazarian for murdering Sam Scales and framing him. After demanding a public exoneration and settling the dust on his latest case, Mickey took his Lincoln Continental for a spin to the grocery store, where he first noticed Smulders' character. While Emi caught up to her half-brother and was about to introduce herself in The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4, shots were fired at them. Emi was quick to push Mickey to the ground and saved him from the shooting, which, as Agent Ruth revealed, was connected to the Armenian mob.

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 concluded on a shocking cliffhanger as Emi revealed her true identity to Mickey:
“Actually, I’m your sister.”
In addition to the upcoming spin-off, Cobie Smulders will also appear as a series regular in the fifth and final season of The Lincoln Lawyer. The final season will follow Mickey as he navigates the truth about his secret sister, who has come to him with a plea to help free a wrongfully convicted woman.
The spin-off will explore the Harry Bosch–Mickey Haller crossover in a unique way

With Netflix set to expand Michael Connelly's legal world, Emi and the upcoming spin-off will fill the void in Mickey's family dynamics, partly caused by the absence of his half-brother Harry Bosch. For the uninitiated, the characters played by Titus Welliver in Prime Video's Bosch and Mickey Haller are half-brothers created by author Michael Connelly, who share a unified book universe and frequently team up in the books. However, an on-screen Harry Bosch–Mickey Haller crossover is a far stretch, considering Amazon owns the rights to Welliver's fictional character.
As Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez revealed in their interview with Netflix Tudum, they were keen on exploring the Harry Bosch–Mickey Haller crossover in The Lincoln Lawyer universe, which inspired them to create Emi's character. Check out their statement:
''The desire to expand Mickey’s universe in terms of his family connections was always there. … We just thought it was something that maybe our show was missing. That all inspired inventing a character who, in some ways, is similar to what’s in the books. But it’s a completely...different character, with a completely different backstory.”
As Humphrey and Rodriguez teased, The Lincoln Lawyer Season 5 will do solid groundwork for the spin-off. The final season will see Mickey navigating his secret sister's sudden arrival, while taking on a case that wrongfully imprisoned an innocent woman.
The first four seasons of The Lincoln Lawyer are streaming on Netflix.
