Travis Kelce receives an important NFL update amid his forthcoming summer wedding to fiancée Taylor Swift. The 36-year-old tight end sparked retirement rumors after his team, the Kansas City Chiefs, failed to qualify for the playoffs this year. However, Kelce hinted in several press interactions that he is willing to return to the Chiefs and play another NFL season. However, it now appears that the road to a comeback may not be that easy.

Travis Kelce gets a major NFL update amid retirement rumors and ahead of his impending wedding to Taylor Swift. As per several media reports, the Chiefs are currently negotiating a new contract with Kelce. In fact, coach Andy Reid has hinted that talks with the Chiefs’ tight end are underway, but no decision has been finalized yet.

However, it seems like the Chiefs are actively scouting for a replacement for Kelce. As per Heavy.com, a possible replacement for Kelce has emerged at the NFL Combine, a reliable and trusted player who can possibly fill Kelce’s void. While this may come as good news for the Chiefs, it is concerning for Kelce, who is in the middle of re-negotiating his contract terms.

Charles Goldman, NFL managing editor, noted that there’s a standout at the 2026 NFL Combine who “may already have an advantage as a potential successor.” Goldman further expressed, “Sooner rather than later, Kansas City will have to plan for life after Kelce. There’s no time like the present, with the 2026 NFL Draft loaded with talented prospects at the position” (via A to Z Sports).

Previously, Chiefs coach Andy Reid revealed that Kelce had casually discussed the matter with him but hadn’t conveyed his final decision yet. Reid stated, “No, there is communication, though. That’s the main thing. I’ve said this before: As long as there’s communication, I’m good. That means people want to move forward. I think that’s where Trav is. I’m not trying to put words in his mouth at all, and I try to give him some space here” (via NFL Media).
