Walker Scobell still can't really separate Percy Jackson from Logan Lerman

Scobell, 17, who plays the titular demigod in Disney+'s Percy Jackson and the Olympians, told PEOPLE how Lerman came to mind the first time a fan referred to him as the character's name

"I was looking around for Logan Lerman at first," Scobell said

It took a while for Walker Scobell to process that he was going to be Percy Jackson.

The actor, 17, plays the demigod in the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which is adapted from Rick Riordan's bestselling book series.

Years before Scobell stepped into the character's shoes, though, Logan Lerman played him in two films, so Lerman and Percy Jackson have always been somewhat synonymous in Scobell's eyes. That was particularly true the first time Scobell remembers being called the character's name.

"People started calling me Percy Jackson at the Stranger Things premiere," Scobell told PEOPLE in a December 2025 interview. "That was a massive thing for me — I got to go to the Stranger Things season 4 premiere, that was insane."

Scobell admits he doesn't "like walking the red carpet that much, it stresses me out," so he opted to go a different way into the event but still encountered some fans.

"There were still all these people taking pictures, and this group of people around my age were like, 'Percy Jackson! Percy Jackson!'" he says. "That freaked me out. I was looking around for Logan Lerman at first."

Once he "realized they were talking to me," Scobell says, "it was insane."

When Scobell was first cast in the series at 13, he told PEOPLE he was excited about the idea of the original cast getting in touch with him. "I really hope they do. That would be really cool — I'd like to hear some advice from Logan Lerman," Scobell said in 2022. "I really liked his Percy Jackson."

Lerman, 34, later surprised Scobell and his castmates, Leah Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri, with a message of support for the series.

In a message delivered by Happy Sad Confused host Josh Horowitz, Lerman said, "The show looks amazing, and I can’t wait to see you all crush it in your roles. You’re making a lot of people happy bringing these characters to life.”

Lerman also called out Scobell in particular, as he said, “I can’t imagine a better fit for Percy Jackson than Walker — you were so brilliant in The Adam Project.”

“Hope you like eating blue food the next few years, because I think you’ve got a hit show on your hands,” Lerman joked.

Now the actors are friends. "I've spent some time with them," Lerman told IMDb last year of the show's cast. "And, you know, I would say Walker's now like a friend. We talk and text from time to time."

"They're really a sweet group of kids, really talented and nice people," Lerman said of the cast.

He played coy, though, about the possibility of returning to the universe for a potential cameo. "No conversation's happened, but I mean, yeah, why not?" he teased.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians seasons 1 and 2 can be streamed on Disney+.
