Welcome back to the dystopian world of the Wasteland.
On Dec. 16, Fallout season 2 premiered, taking viewers to the year 2296, centuries after a nuclear war ravaged America.
The story and retro-futuristic look of the Fallout game franchise have enthralled video game players since the first title debuted in 1997.
Now, nearly 30 years later, Fallout has reached an even larger audience after it was adapted into one of Prime Video's most popular original shows in April 2024.
In the second installment, Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell) and The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) embark on a journey to a post-apocalyptic Sin City now called New Vegas. While Fallout season 1 was mostly shot in New York, production was relocated to California for season 2 to capture more memorable scenes.
So, where was Fallout filmed? Here's everything to know about the real-life locations the cast worked in.

Location: Wendover Airfield, Utah
In the series, Maximus (Aaron Moten) is a soldier for the Brotherhood of Steel, a semi-religious military faction that uses advanced technology.
Production for the Prime Video show moved to Utah, where Wendover Airfield was used to film scenes set at the base of the Brotherhood of Steel in season 1, according to the Utah Film Commission, per ABC 4.
The Wendover Army Air Force Base opened in March 1942, following the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941. The base played a key role during World War II, where it was the testing and training ground for the atomic bomb. The Air Force base was operational until 1963.

Location: Namibia, Africa
The post-apocalyptic version of Los Angeles featured in Fallout wasn't filmed in California, but in Africa.
The nuclear-ravaged city was shot in the country of Namibia, located on the southwestern coast of the continent. According to the Los Angeles Times, the Elizabeth Bay region, a largely abandoned mining town, served as a stand-in for the California city.
"It’s just so gorgeously destroyed," Fallout production designer Howard Cummings told the outlet. "Every day for years, 60 mph winds with sandstorms have pitted all the surfaces."
He continued, "When they abandoned the giant processing facility, they blew up the manufacturing parts. That was perfect for us; it looked like an atomic bomb went off. We had to do so little to really make it come alive."
The famous Ferris wheel on the Santa Monica pier and the Malibu mountains were added digitally.
"The biggest challenge for us, visual effects-wise, was combining Namibia, New York and Utah to make it look like post-apocalyptic L.A.," said visual effects supervisor Jay Worth.
According to Kodak, other scenes were also filmed in Kolmanskop, another nearby ghost town.
"We were transported, truly, to a desolate set. It became our set, the sands of Namibia," Moten told GamesRadar+ in April 2024. "That first feeling – I remember walking out and doing the scene. It took away a lot of the work you sometimes have to do as an actor. I obviously believe where we are."
"It felt like I got to reinvest in my scene partners and really dig deep into the story," he added.

Location: New York
The first season of Fallout was primarily filmed in and around New York City, as well as in other parts of New York state.
One major setting, the Vault tunnels, was built on sets in Brooklyn, N.Y., per Kodak. According to The New York Times, the series filmed on soundstages at the Brooklyn Army Terminal, which fans spotted it used as the Enclave Research Facility.
In addition, production took place at the Widow Jane Mine in Rosendale, N.Y. and at a quarry in Sojourner Truth State Park in Kingston, N.Y., per The Poughkeepsie Journal.
"It’s a favorite location that we’ve recommended many times. Fallout was by far, the largest production to ever film there," said Laurent Rejto, Hudson Valley Film Commission executive director, about the Widow Jane Mine.
The Fallout franchise's iconic gas station chain, Red Rocket, was also brought to life in New York. According to PC Gamer and Comic Book Resources, a gas station in Nyack, N.Y., was transformed into a retro-futuristic filling station.

Season 2 of Fallout moved production from New York to California, receiving $25 million in tax credits for filming in the Golden State, as Variety reported.
According to Deadline, shooting happened at Melody Ranch in Santa Clarita, Calif., though production was temporarily paused in January 2025 due to the devastating L.A.-area wildfires.
A setting for Fallout season 2 is New Vegas, which was recreated in North Hollywood. Per TV Insider, the series changed the Valley Plaza strip mall to look like a dystopian Sin City.
