A woman who went viral after sharing her unfortunate work email address has announced almost two years later that she's changed her name.
Samantha first took to TikTok in September 2023 to explain that her name can sometimes lead to awkward moments at work — particularly when she begins a new job and gets a company email address. "My name is Samantha Hart," she said in her video. "Most companies use the email designation of first initial, last name, meaning my email would be 'shart.' "
"Shart" is a portmanteau combining "s---" and "fart," referring to when someone accidentally defecates as they pass gas.
She said at the time that her last two employers reached out about a week before she started once they noticed her name. "My name does not exactly fit the company email structure as they would intend, and would I mind if they gave me a different structure for my email?" she recalled them asking.
"I don't want an email that says 'shart,' " the TikToker laughed. "Fix it, give me something else."
In the years that followed, her video — and unfortunate workplace situation — made headlines across the internet, with Samantha telling BuzzFeed in 2024 that she would soon be changing her name after her upcoming wedding.

Over two years later, she returned to the subject in TikTok video posted April 2026, explaining that she'd changed her last name. "Okay, so I think a lot of you followed me because of my 'shart' video that I made a few years ago," Samantha began, before revealing that she got married over the summer and decided to take her spouse's name, Showalter.
"My name is no longer shart," she joked. "Shart is dead, shart is begone from me. But we did pay one last homage to the name."
She explained that she and her spouse decided to place potpourri around the bathrooms at their wedding venue, and made custom stickers saying "Shart No More" on them.
She joked that, while many of her friends were in on the joke, a lot of attendees weren't. "Those who got it, you got it. Shart no more, that's me," she said.
PEOPLE reached out to Samantha for further comment but didn't immediately receive a response.
