‘Young Americans’: What to Know About Scott Foley’s New Political Drama

Scott Foley has had a year full of ups and downs, but fortunately, the latest news is in the former category. The actor has landed a lead role in Hulu’s upcoming political drama pilot called Young Americans.

Here’s what we know about it so far.

What is Young Americans about?

Deadline, which first reported the news of Foley’s casting, reveals that the official description for the would-be series is as follows: “As the children of the nation’s elite battle it out at Capitol Crest Academy in Washington, D.C., their teenage dramas begin to mirror the larger political games of their parents. Amidst the secrets, scandals, and deadly ambitions, a forbidden romance between two students from opposing political families threatens to escalate tensions to a breaking point.”

Who stars in Young Americans?

So far, Foley is the only star attached to the pilot. His character is President Judd Burchfield, leader of the U.S., who is described as “a principled politician” with good “heartland instincts.” As he leads the nation, however, he faces a very difficult personal tragedy with the death of his firstborn daughter, and he has an old political rivalry to tangle with in the midst of that loss and massive responsibilities.

Foley is no stranger to political dramas, of course. He previously starred as a series regular in the ShondaLand series Scandal, along with starring as a small-town Kansas mayor running for president in The Girls on the Bus.

Behind the scenes, the series is written and executive-produced by Chris Hutton and Eddie O’Keefe. Also executive producing the series are Bruce Miller and Priscilla Poriand for White Oak. The studio for the pilot is 20th Television.
